Recipe for lots of power: Bircher muesli with fresh fruit

The best thing about staying in a hotel is always the breakfast buffet. A huge selection of sweet and savoury delicacies and you can help yourself to your heart’s content. What always ends up on our table at such a breakfast buffet is a delicious and healthy Bircher muesli with fresh fruit. And because it’s so easy to prepare, we always have it at home. 

Für vier Portionen benötigst du:

250 g muesli with spelt flakes
50 g sultanas
50 g chopped almonds or other nuts, whichever you like best
1 tablespoon honey (if you prefer it a little sweeter, you can of course increase the amount of honey).
350 ml milk
2 medium apples
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 pinch cinnamon
Fresh fruit or alternatively dried fruits

Prepare the Bircher muesli the evening before as follows:

Grate the two apples with peel into medium grates on a kitchen grater and mix them with the lemon juice in a bowl, which you can then close and put in the fridge.

Now add the remaining ingredients, i.e. the muesli with spelt flakes, the sultanas, the almonds or nuts, depending on taste, and also the honey and 1 pinch of cinnamon and the milk.

Mix everything together well and leave the muesli to soak overnight. The next morning, take it out of the fridge at least half an hour before eating so that the flavour can develop better.

Now you can add fresh seasonal fruit on top. Whether apples, berries or bananas. Dried fruit is also delicious. You can even mix it in the night before.

By the way, Birchermüsli is also great to take with you as a second breakfast at work or to fortify yourself on a hike.
