Vanilla crescents – a classic at Christmas time

Vanillekipferln nach Südtiroler Art

They simply can’t be missing from any cookie plate, can they? Vanilla crescents, with a delicate taste of nuts and almond, covered with a layer of icing and vanilla sugar.

That’s exactly how we love them!

And here is the recipe for our vanilla crescents:

  • 320 g Flour
  • 60 g unpeeled, ground almonds
  • 60 g unshelled, ground nuts
  • 270 g Butter
  • 120 g Sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 Pinch of salt
  • Dust and vanilla sugar for rolling

Mix the flour with the nuts and almonds and make a well in the center. Add the butter cut into cubes, sugar, eggs and salt and knead. Gradually add the mixture of flour, nuts and almonds and work it into a fine dough. This must now rest for an hour in a cold place.

From the rested dough you form small balls, which you walk into rolls and then form into croissants. Bake at 180° for 8 to 10 minutes. Roll the still warm croissants in the vanilla-dusted sugar mixture.

Have fun baking and enjoy the vanilla crescents!
