A magical Christmas in Bolzano
There is a smell of cinnamon and spices, of mountain wood and homemade cake, of mulled wine and festively decorated fir trees. The light of the festively decorated wooden houses and that of the Christmas tree is reflected in the wide eyes. Sweetly sounding Christmas carols and cheerful harmonies waft through the air.
The aromas are reminiscent of tents with candied fruit, apple strudel, homemade cookies. Feel the warmth of wool, loden, decorated candles, or hold a steaming cup in your hands.
In Bolzano, the Christmas Market is the most anticipated event of the year for many people: from November 26, 2021 to January 6, 2022, it is finally here.
The Bolzano Christmas Market, with Bressanone the oldest in South Tyrol, took place for the first time in 1991 and in just a few years became a center of attraction for guests from near and far. The idea has remained the same: 80 exhibitors, selected products, an excellent musical setting.
The Bolzano Christmas Market is one of the Big Five Original South Tyrolean Christmas Markets, along with Merano, Brunico, Bressanone and Vipiteno.
These have been shining under a green star since 2014. Together with the Ökoinstitut Südtirol, work was done to make the Advent season in South Tyrol more ecological and sustainable and the Original South Tyrolean Christmas Markets are now a certified Green Event.
But back to Bolzano…
“Reading at the Bolzano Christmas Market” is the cultural highlight of the Bolzano Christmas Market. Top-class authors are guests in Bolzano this year to present their works and meet the audience.
The 6th edition will take place this year from 8 to 10.12.2021 at Maretsch Castle.

Bolzano Christmas Market is open daily from 10:00 to 19:00. Special opening hours apply for the opening on 25.11.2021 from 17:00 to 19:00, as well as on 24.12.2021 from 10:00’to 14:00, on 31.12.2021 from 10:00 to 18:00 and on 01.01.2022 from 12:00 to 19:00. On 25.12.2021 the Christkindlmarkt is closed.
