The first snow has fallen and the mountains around us look like they are dusted with powdered sugar. Like our Spitzbuben, which we bake year after year at Christmas time. And since the first Advent and the pre-Christmas season are not so far away, today we want to share with you a recipe for Christmas cookies.
For the South Tyrolean Spitzbuben you need the following ingredients:
150 gr. butter 125 gr. Sugar 1/2 pck. vanilla sugar 1/2 tsp. grated lemon peel 1 pinch of salt 2 eggs 300 gr. Wheat flour ½ pck. baking powder jam (apricot or currant or what you like) for coating powdered sugar for sprinkling |
This is how you succeed with the South Tyrolean Spitzbuben:
Beat the soft butter together with the sugar until creamy. Stir in the vanilla sugar, lemon zest and salt and the eggs, then mix the flour with sifted baking powder and add and knead into a dough. Cover and let rest in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Roll out the dough to a thickness of approx. ½ cm and cut out rings from one half and round cookies from the other half and bake in an oven preheated to 180 degrees for approx. 8 -10 minutes. Let the cookies cool and spread with the jam. Sprinkle the rings with powdered sugar and place them on the cookies. Your Spitzbuben are ready.
Have fun baking!
